Health personnel trained by AMREF, including clinical and public health officers, community midwives and nurses, are helping bring good-quality health care to the population. There is still much to do in Southern Sudan: there is only one doctor per 100,000 people and only 5% of births are attended by skilled health staff.
The Lui Health Training Institute is an AMREF-funded training center for young trainee nurses and nurse midwifes from all over Southern Sudan. In the demonstration room at the Institute, pregnant mother Rina Martin is examined by trainees Mary Ojaba (left) and Mariam Paul (right).
