Dr. Teguest Guerma, Director General

Dr. Guerma joined AMREF in 2010 after 21 years at The World Health Organization, most recently as Acting Director of WHO’s Global HIV/AIDS program. Dr. Guerma played an instrumental role in the 3x5 Initiative and the Universal Access for HIV treatment and prevention goal. She has held prestigious positions in seven countries on four continents and traveled to more than 70 countries working with governments, foundations, universities, and citizens. Dr. Guerma recently led the revision of the worldwide HIV treatment guidelines. She has also chaired several international conferences in Toronto, Mexico, Abuja, and Dakar, among many others. A medical doctor and infectious diseases specialist, Dr. Guerma received her medical degree from the University of Reims in France, and post-graduate degrees in Infectious Diseases and Bacteriology/Virology from the University of Dakar, Senegal, and a Certificate of Epidemiology from Johns Hopkins University.
