February 5, 2016 – Amref Health Africa is thrilled to once again be an Official Charity Partner of the TCS New York City Marathon. This year, the race will take place on Sunday, November 6, 2016. The TCS New York City Marathon is the largest major marathon in the world, with over 49,000 runners from 125 countries participating in last year’s race.
The TCS New York City Marathon’s Charity Partner Program provides a platform for dedicated marathon runners to fundraise and increase awareness for organizations whose causes are important to them. In 2015, 13 runners chose Amref Health Africa as their charity of choice in the TCS New York City Marathon. Our team of runners, which included Amref Health Africa in the USA Executive Director Bob Kelty, raised over $60,000, dedicating the 26.2 mile-run to midwives and the important work they do in saving the lives of hundreds of African women and their infants every day.
This year, Team Amref Health Africa will run once again in the TCS New York City Marathon to raise awareness of the high number of women in Africa who die needlessly in childbirth and pregnancy, and the midwives who dedicate themselves to preventing these deaths.
