May 15, 2015 – The Management and Development Institute (MDI) is an executive MBA-type program designed to enhance the leadership and management skills of program managers and leaders of sub-Saharan African organizations, governmental and non-governmental, that are devoted to delivering health care services to underserved populations. The program has been designed specifically to assist African ministries of health in implementing their particular national health priorities.
MDI was originally designed by world-class management faculty from the UCLA Anderson School of Management at the University of California at Los Angeles (UCLA) and by leaders of Amref Health Africa. Course content is delivered by instructors from UCLA, Amref Health Africa and by outstanding faculty from other African universities, including the Ghana Institute of Management and Public Administration (GIMPA) and the Graduate School of Business at the University of Cape Town (UCT). The first 2015 session was held on May 9 in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. Two other sessions are scheduled for June and August in West and South Africa. The program is generously funded by Johnson & Johnson.
