Nyama Choma: Meat, Eat and Do Good

Nyama Choma

The Swahili phrase Nyama Choma translates as barbecued meat. But in Kenya, it means a lot more than that: bringing communities together and celebrating good times, whatever the occasion.

During July and August we are asking supporters to bring the flavor of Kenya to their summer BBQ.

As a Nyama Choma host you provide the food with your guests giving a donation for their meal. You need to find a suitable outdoor space, your garden, local community center or sports club, then decide on a suitable date.

Thank You! We hope you have fun!

After Ben Nottingham had attended a few benefit events, he decided to organize his own event in support of Amref Health Africa's Stand Up for African Mothers campaign. Following our FUNraiser’s Guide, he created a benefit committee including friends and family and started planning.

Together, the FUNraisers hosted an exciting auction event in New York City, bringing together more than 70 friends old and new. This was real work! But in the end it paid off.  Ben and committee raised more than $20,000 in support of our Stand Up for African Mothers campaign!

We are deeply grateful to Ben and his committee’s generosity!

Please take a look at our Funraiser’s toolkit to get inspired to plan your event or other FUNraising activity.
