November 17, 2015 – In 2010, the United Nations Commission on Life Saving Commodities for Women and Children identified 13 overlooked life-saving commodities across the reproductive, maternal, newborn, and child health ‘continuum of care’ – including contraceptives, resuscitation devices, and medicines – and developed strategies to improve access and demand.

As part of the commission, Amref Health Africa collaborated with UN agencies and other experts to create the "Toolkit for Implementing Health Services," a toolkit which includes guides, job aids and checklists that ensure that health care workers are using these life-saving commodities correctly. The toolkit was released with the aim of increasing the quality and availability of maternal, newborn and child health services.
