ArtBall is a premier contemporary African art auction and philanthropic event that aims to raise funds and awareness for Amref Health Africa. This year, ArtBall will honor artist Toyin Ojih Odutola with the Rees Visionary Award for bringing forth critical African cultural and transcultural perspectives, that inspire and embolden the viewer through these challenging times.

 

ArtBall 2018 will feature a silent auction via Artsy, showcasing works from over 25 African artists. Admission to the event includes an open bar, passed hors d'oeuvres and interactive educational installations about the work Amref Health Africa does to create lasting health change in Africa.

About the Honoree


Toyin Ojih Odutola was born in Nigeria and raised in Alabama. She received her B.A. from the University of Alabama in Huntsville before continuing to California College of the Arts for her M.F.A. Known for her conceptual portraiture, Ojih Odutola explores the concept of race, wealth, and Nigerian culture through her work. 

 

To Wander Determined, her first solo exhibition in New York is on view at the Whitney Museum of American Art until February 25, 2018. Ojih Odutola has participated in exhibitions at various institutions, including Brooklyn Museum, New York (2016); Contemporary Art Museum St. Louis (2015); Studio Museum Harlem, New York (2015, 2012); Aldrich Contemporary Art Museum, Ridgefield (2013); and Menil Collection, Houston, (2012).

 

Permanent collections include Museum of Modern Art, Whitney Museum of American Art, Baltimore Museum of Art, New Orleans Museum of Art, Philadelphia Museum of Art, Princeton University Art Museum, Spencer Museum of Art, and the National Museum of African Art (Smithsonian).
